How Do I Measure My Horse?
At Bad Cowgirl Co., we want your horse to look as good as they feel. In the UK, we measure rugs in feet and inches based on Body Length.
To get the perfect fit, measure from the center of the horse's chest, around the curve of the shoulder, and along the side to the farthest point of the hindquarters (parallel with the tail).
Pro Tip: For turnout rugs, a little extra coverage is your best friend. You want the rug to sit far enough back to keep your horse dry and clean, even in the worst weather.
Find Your Fit
Once you have your measurement, check it against our size chart below. While we use Body Length in the UK, we’ve included Back Seam equivalents for those used to European sizing.

Between Sizes?
Standard rugs go up in 3-inch intervals. If your horse falls between sizes (for example, measuring 6’2” when the options are 6’0” and 6’3”), or if they vary between brands, here is our advice:
We recommend sizing down. Bad Cowgirl Co. rugs are designed for a true, generous fit and feature highly adjustable chest fastenings. If you’re torn between a 6'0" and a 6'3", the 6'0" is usually the way to go.
The Test Drive: Trying On Your Rug
To ensure your new gear is perfect, follow these steps before you head out:
-
Prep the Horse: Give your horse a thorough groom. Removing dust, mud, and loose seasonal hair keeps the rug pristine.
-
Keep it Clean: Always try the rug on before a ride to avoid sweat marks. Keep all labels attached.
-
The Fitting: Place the rug on and fasten the chest first, followed by the surcingles and leg straps. Adjust as needed.
-
The Movement Test: * Check the fit while they are standing still.
-
Walk them a few yards to see how the rug moves.
-
The Graze Test: Let them put their head down. Ensure the rug doesn't pull or tighten around the neck or shoulders.
-
What if it Doesn't Fit?
Sometimes, despite the best measurements, the fit just isn't right. We want you to be 100% happy with your Bad Cowgirl Co. gear.
We offer exchanges and refunds, but we can only accept returns that are in perfect, "as new" condition. This means:
